Homefires Park is situated at the corner of Festubert and Moreuilwood Blvd, next to the Twin Rivers complex overlooking the beautiful Ottawa River with the Quebec hills in the background. Unique boulders line the main pathway from the monument to the gazebo. The pathway represents the many journeys military families make - a journey to shelter realizing that sometimes the path we take leads us in directions we do not expect. Each boulder has the military unit/association name and crest sandblasted into the rock. Many boulders include a sentence of support to spouses. The white crushed rock that lines all the pathways represents the sand from sea to sea. Just as members of the Canadian Armed Forces serve from one end of Canada to the other, and beyond.
Personalized, individual/family bricks have been installed along the "Family Pathway" which leads to a quiet, benched area beneath giant pine trees. Each bears its own special message; to acknowledge a loved one, a welcome home from NATO/UN Tour, a family gift to a military wife and mother, or in memory of a loved one. For others, it's a way of leaving a little something behind as they move on to new challenges.
