It's that time again "Posting Season" and you're it! You just found out you're moving across Canada somewhere or even overseas and you have the dreadful task of telling your employer that you have to leave. You ask for a reference letter to compliment your sketchy resume which probably by now reads like a map of Canada! Well, fortunately, there is some good news for us transient wives out there....DND will now cover the costs for resume services! They will pay up to $350.00 for resume services. All you have to do is supply them with your last record of employment, a receipt from the company that wrote your resume, and you will be reimbursed. Just bring all the information to the Claims Office and they will process it.
The next step, however, is not so easy; looking for that new job. Below is a list of helpful hints for job hunting. I found that these important rules helped me out in my quest for the perfect job. |
- Most jobs today are not found in the classified section of your newspaper; you should think of alternative ways to look for employment. You are limiting yourself to only 7-10%, or less, of all available jobs, plus you are competing with thousands of job hunters who are reading the same ads.
- Contact companies directly; contact the head of your functional specialty in that company, You have a great product to sell - yourself!
- Executive recruiters and employment agencies; they can be a great source of hidden jobs, even if they do not have a position suitable for you at a given time. They will, however, have a greater chance of successfully locating a position for you if your professional disipline is of a technical or specific nature, such as accounting, engineering, graphic design, or sales.
- On line services; thousands of individuals have tapped into these powerful new technologies (databases, electronic bulletin boards on the Internet, and other online services) to help them achieve their goals. This is a particularly good way for military wives to seek employment since we travel from coast to coast or even overseas!
